Monitored Home Security Systems Offer Numerous Advantages

5 April, 2010

The last thing you would ever want to happen is to drive up your street after a night out, only to find emergency response units blocking entrance to your driveway because they’re busy putting out a fire at your house.

This exact scenario happens far too often in this country, which is why ADT monitoring and fire safety is so important. Not only will you be notified in the event of a home emergency while you’re out for the night – or gone for the week on vacation – but so will your local emergency response units, often faster than dialing 911.

ADT Home Security has highly trained emergency response dispatchers skilled in assessing the emergency, getting help there as fast as possible, and notifying you of what’s happening at your home in the event you’re not there.

That’s total peace of mind, and that’s what you get with ADT home security monitoring. Call today and see what a difference this will make in your life.

Security Tips - Make Your Home Safe And Secure

1 April, 2010

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to be safer around your house. Here are some more home security tips that can really help you in the event of an emergency.

Store Valuables in a Safe or Safety Deposit Box . You have far too many important and irreplaceable documents around you house to just store them in a filing cabinet, or worse, in a box in your storage room. File insurance papers, wills, birth certificates, passports, and other important documents in a fireproof safe, or in a safety deposit box at your local bank.

Keep Your Drapes and Blinds Pulled Shut. Any burglar worth his salt will peer through any unconcealed window to see what’s inside. He’s looking for home electronics that are easy to sell. Flat screen televisions, DVD players, stereo equipment, computers, and gaming stations are high on his list. Don’t advertise what you’ve got inside your house.

Install Reinforced Door Frames. Home security experts stress the importance of case hardened steel deadbolt locks, particularly for your front door. When you include a reinforced door frame designed to properly receive the bolt from your lock, you are making your front door a virtual fortress. Burglars will look for an easier target.

Make certain to have a home security burglar and fire alarm professionally installed in your home. Include smoke detectors, motion sensors, and door and window alarms for a wide range of security and protection.

Security Tips - Keep Burglars Away From Your Home And Family

30 March, 2010

You can always do something more to keep your home and family safe and secure. Here are some more tips to help you accomplish your home security goals:

Stop Newspaper and Mail Delivery when on Vacation. When you plan your family vacation, take the time to submit notice to the post office and your local newspaper. They’re happy to suspend delivery for the time you’ll be away, which will prevent the obvious pileup that all burglars look for when casing a potential target.

Put Your TVs, lamps, and Radios on a Timer . When you know you’re going to be out of the house late at night, or even gone for a couple of days, consider putting your radios, television, and lamps on timers so they’ll turn off and on at predetermined times. This will give the outside world the impression someone is at home.

Secure Your Garage Doors. Many homeowners neglect their garage doors, which is a favored entry point for most experienced burglars. Use good deadbolt locks on any door, and strong sash locks on any windows. There’s no reason for your garage to be your most vulnerable security point.

Talk with a Locksmith. Case hardened steel deadbolts are great security for each entry door in your house. A locksmith will give you great advice, and will even do the installation if you prefer. Burglars know the signs of a professionally installed deadbolt lock and will look for an easier target.

Be sure to have your home professionally equipped with a home security system, and don’t neglect the additional security measures you and your family can undertake each day around your house and property.

Stay Safer At Home

25 March, 2010

Here are some great safety tips that will help keep your home safe from burglars.

Don’t Open Your Door to Strangers. Many burglars will try to look like a police officer or a delivery person. Your front door should be equipped with an eyepiece so you can see who is standing on your porch. If you are not expecting them, insist on their proper ID, and call their office to verify their presence. Never open your door to them until you’re completely satisfied that they are who they say.

Do Not Leave Extra Keys Under Doormats. Every burglar in the world knows to look under doormats, potted plants, and larger rocks placed near entry doors. If you feel like you need to have a spare key stored somewhere, a trustworthy neighbor or a lock box is just the ticket.

Plant Rosebushes or Hedges. Planting rosebushes or hedges in front of any windows that may be easy to break into is a great security measure, and one that is very effective. The last thing a burglar wants to contend with, particularly when it’s dark outside, is a bush full of stickers or thorns. Plant them close and give potential burglars no wiggle room whatsoever.

Get Someone to Watch Your House when Away. When you know you’ll be away from home for an extended period of time, asking a neighbor to watch your house is a very good idea. They’ll be able to collect your mail, retrieve newspapers and packages, and in general keep an eye on your house, knowing you’re not there and no one should be hanging around.

Each of these security measures will work in tandem with a professionally installed home security burglar alarm system, making your house the one the burglars will skip.

Mistaken Identity - Man Posing As Police Officer Pulls Over Off-Duty Policeman

22 March, 2010

An Arizona man posing as a police officer picked the wrong driver to pull over. An Arizona jury found 62-year-old David Word guilty of impersonating a lawman for pulling over an off-duty police officer.

The real police officer said he was on his way to work when Word pulled him over while driving a black Ford Crown Victoria equipped with lights and a siren. The officer said Word issued a warning to slow down and drove away. The officer wrote down the license plate, which came back registered to Word. Police arrested Word at his home.

Skilled burglars often pose as a person of authority, even as police officers, to gain entry into a house. If someone unexpectedly is knocking on your door, never, ever open it. Also, don’t hesitate to ask for proper identification, and call the company to verify the person’s employment and reason for visiting your house. Do not let them into your house, or open your door to them until you’re totally satisfied they are who they say.

Staying one step ahead of burglars is the only way to keep them out of your house, and away from your possessions and your family.
