Shocking! - Sleeping Man Shocked When Cold Man Jumps Into His Bed

18 March, 2010

Sometimes life is stranger than fiction, which is just one more reason to have a monitored home security system professionally installed in your house. This way, in case anyone who feels like stumbling into your house after a concert and too much to drink won’t be quite as successful as Michael Kamau was.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania police say a man broke into a home and climbed in bed with the homeowner, apparently because he was drunk and cold following a rap concert. Michael Kamau, 33, faces charges of criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

The owner of the home was in bed and asleep when a very cold Kamau climbed in about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. The homeowner thought it might be a woman who has keys to his home, but quickly grabbed a baseball bad after a man’s voice assured him it wasn’t.

If the home had been equipped with a monitored home security burglar alarm system, this wouldn’t even be a news story. The homeowner wouldn't have had to resort to his own protection with a baseball bat. Fortunately, it worked out for him, but why take chances with the security of your home and your family?

Woman Steals Plane - A Woman Steals Landlord's Plane, Ditches It In Field

16 March, 2010

So, here’s the deal. The woman stole her landlord's airplane, then abandoned it in a field after it ran out of gas. The 27-year-old woman had easy access to the plane, a single engine Piper Cherokee, because she had been borrowing it for piloting lessons. However, she did not have permission to take it and was arrested on charges of grand theft and aircraft theft.

Local authorities said she landed it in a Modoc County ranch field when she ran out of gas, didn't report the incident, and then hiked to a nearby hotel to spend the night. Curious residents called authorities about the abandoned plane, and deputies arrested the woman the next morning.

You may not have an airplane that you need to protect against theft, but what you do have is yours and it’s no less an invasion of your privacy when a burglar feels like stealing your personal belongings. You can protect your home, family, and personal possession with a professionally monitored burglar alarm system, complete with door and window sensors and motion detectors.

Firefighters Rock! - Firefighters Respond To House Filled With Smoke, Save Duck!

12 March, 2010

Once upon a time, firefighters used to respond to calls to extract helpless kittens from trees. In what could possibly be a nod to a different age in America’s history, Santa Fe, Texas firefighters respond to a call to help extract a duck from a chimney.

Apparently, a homeowner heard the bird stuck way up in the chimney of his house and did what many of us would do: lit a fire. Hoping the duck would flee from the smoke and heat, the homeowner had to admit the plan backfired when the duck held its ground and his house filled with smoke.

Firefighters arrived to see that the fire had been extinguished, but the duck was still firmly planted inside the chimney. When the firefighters opened the damper, a wing was within reach and the duck was pulled through and into the house. The duck was taken outside and, as ducks will do, flew away unharmed.

Smoke detectors are the earliest detection possible in a home fire. Make sure yours are operating optimally by changing the batteries every six months, cleaning the grates monthly, and testing the audible alarm at the same time.

Flood Sensors - It's Time To Prepare For The Spring Thaw

1 March, 2010

Before we know it, school will be out and summer will be upon us. However, in between then and now comes wet, wet spring, and that means thawing snow and rising water levels. Many parts of the country have been hit hard with snow this winter, and that means water tables will be very high, and rivers, streams, and creeks will be bursting as all that snow melts.

Your monitored home security alarm system should include flood sensors. They not only protect your home against burst pipes inside your house due to a massive and sudden drop in temperatures, but also against rising water tables in your part of the country due to thawing and melting of accumulated snow caps.

Floods cause damage because they are generally not detected for hours. By placing flood sensors near the baseboards in the lowest rooms in your house, you’re giving yourself the earliest notification possible that flooding is occurring inside your house.
